Grace Solero - New Moon

by themusicman @ Friday, Sep. 21, 2007 - 15:54:58

As promised here's another one for y'all and I'm listening to the new Ben Lee record atm so that one should be up shortly!

Female fronted bands, in my opinion, always have an uphill battle to fight from the offset. Not least because it’s easy to lose respect for the lasses in amongst all that jumping around in tight tops. Luckily for ‘Grace Solero’ (writers of debut album ‘New Moon’) this is a record review and not a live one. So in the CD goes…

Impressive... 'If U feel', 'Apartheid' and 'Troops' are the album’s true gems, but the whole album smacks of Skunk-Anansie. Lead vocalist Grace may be from the other side of the world but her vocals could easily pass for Skin’s. This is the only down point on a very fine record so if you can put that out of your mind (and the fact that her surname is an ice-cream) you’ll certainly get a kick out of this heavy rocking, riff-laden, near-masterpiece - Class!

I liked Skunks first album, the second one bored the tits off me and I could not bring myself to face the third.

And I have a natural aversion to bands that use the letter U in song titles instead of just going for "you"

BUT, I am interested. Hmmmmmmm.

Thanks for that.

Actually after a quick listen to a track, she sounds a little like Alanis Morisette rather than Skin.

In my opinion that is, but I can see what you meant.

Where are you MM? Are you OK? I'm missing your weblog postings, which I read, but don't always comment. Hope you're OK man, Cheers....

Guys, Grace Solero rock, they really do. I haven't been so impressed by a new band's first album in a long time. I can see how you liken her voice to Skin's from SA but I think GS are harder rocking and much catchier. Go get this if you wanna rock because it kicks butt.
